The BMC EM Blog is a Free Open Access Medical Education (FOAMed) blog brought to you by the emergency medicine residents and faculty at Boston Medical Center. Our goal is to provide high yield educational content, driven by EM medicine residents and reviewed by faculty. We will examine interesting clinical cases, explore timely emergency medicine topics, and entertain you in the process.

We work in a place called Boston Medical Center, at the site of the old Boston City Hospital, often referred to as just plain “City” by our patients. Boston City Hospital was the first ‘Safety-Net’ hospital opened in the United States, created specifically for the “use and comfort of poor patients, to whom medical care will be provided at the expense of the city.” Boston Medical Center remains one of the premier centers for innovation in public health, population health and social determinants of health in the US. This unique environment inspires us to learn and advance our practice of emergency medicine. BostonCityEM is a place where we will step back, examine some interesting cases, and dive into the medicine that drives our everyday learning.

BostonCityEM will feature hot topics in clinical emergency medicine, ultrasound, critical care, pediatric emergency medicine, trauma, wellness and resiliency. We see this blog as an opportunity to collaborate, and to advance our collective emergency medicine knowledge in order to better serve our patients.  We look forward to hearing from you in the FOAMed community as we create our own community of practice and try to get better as EM providers. So please comment on posts, share topics on Twitter, and send us your feedback at BostonCityEM@gmail.com.
